November 2007 Speaker - Dr. David Hayes Dr. David Hayes was born in New Jersey and attended Drew University in Madison, N.J. In 1984, he enlisted in the N.J. National Guard and joined the Seton Hall ROTC program the following year. Upon graduation and commissioning, he was assigned to a three year tour of duty with the U.S. Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma (1986-1989). After leaving the military, Dr. Hayes attended graduate school at the University of Rochester in Rochester, N.Y. where he earned a doctorate degree in political science. He then spent two years at the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California a public policy research center devoted to the advanced study of politics, economics, and political economy both domestic and foreign as well as international affairs. A former Army field artillery officer, Dr. Hayes now specializes in Security Studies and International Political Economy. He has been on the faculty of Troy State Universitys Fort Bragg campus as an assistant professor in International Relations since 1995, and he has worked with the U.S. Army JFK Special Warfare Center and School (USAJFKSWCS). Dr. Hayes will be speaking with us about the economic issues of illegal immigration. With the coming retirement of many Baby Boomers, the U.S. faces a shortage of workers. According to Dr. Hayes, increased immigration will be necessary to avoid a labor shortage and inflation. He believes that failure to expand legal immigration will lead to increased illegal immigration and it will expand to fill the vacuum left by departing Baby Boomers.
